We have a lot of initiatives rolling out this semester and we have few awesome positions open on the board that need passionate architecture students like you! You don’t want to miss out!
Alumni Panel: The IIT Alumni Board in partnership with iitAIAS will be hosting an Alumni Discussion Panel on Monday January 28 2012 in the MTTC Auditorium right after studio at 6:30pm for architecture students. The IIT Alumni Board has gathered volunteers for each major on campus and will be hosting an alumni discussion panel for students in order to help them get a grasp on what work life is like after graduation and what students need to prepare for in order to place themselves in the work force. Here students can network before and after the event and refreshments will be provided if that is a small incentive to students who wish to come and are recommended to come specially if you are 4th, 5th and grad students year students but all students regardless of year level are invited and urged to come!
Membership Reception: Come network with fellow iitAIAS members and iitAIAS Board Members. Learn more about what iitAIAS does at a local and at a national level and learn how to become more involved! There will be snacks and refreshments provided and take a break from class and come hang out with us in Lower Core in Crown Hall! All are welcome to come and please bring your friends or interested future members!
Round Table Discussions: Lead by our very own Ryan Gann. These Round Table discussions will provide a venue for students to speak freely about matters dealing with advocacy towards architecture and what issues are important in our profession. Please come by room 11 at any time between 12:00 to 1:30pm and be part of the discussion!
ADA Charrette: Who wants to add another project to their portfolio?! You do! This small but awesome charrette is a great exercise to get your creative juices flowing. Learn about ADA accessible design and design a ramp that can potentially be entered for a national competition.More information to come but please email our Freedom By Captain John Pasowicz: firstname.lastname@example.org for more information and questions.
Charrette Info: Metropolis Magazine is hosting a Design Competition. They are challenging us to develop solutions that empower, advance, and include groups often overlooked in the design process (including but not limited to, our rapidly increasing aging population and citizens with disabilities). The form is up to you; consider how tech-savvy people are becoming and what devices, materials, and modes of transportation will stay relevant 20 years from now. They are offering a $10,000 prize to the winning design. While I was talking with a resource expert at a hospital about reaching out to other clients she mentioned the fact that most of the people in the city are renting their homes and are not able to make permanent changes to their residences. One issue common is how to circumvent the stairs when an elevator is not feasible and the building owner is not willing to upgrade to ADA standards. She mentioned that she frequently calls the nonemergency help line to get firefighters to help people down the stairs in wheel- chairs. The whole idea behind the charrette is making a removable adaptable and economical solution to implementing a ramp within their building. We are looking for anything from a really strong conceptual design to a well thought out detailed design. We will start out in small groups and then iron out the details into a cohesive plan. The goal of this project is to produce a maximum of ten images to explain our design along with a business plan explaining how we would use the prize money to further the design and implement it into the real world.
General Body Meeting: Come one! Come all! Want to know about the upcoming initiatives of iitAIAS, our future events and want to know more about AIAS in general?
