“The 2012 AIA Illinois Annual Conference at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign was my first AIA conference as an attendee and as a board member. As AIA Illinois Student Director, I am asked to straddle both relating to students and investing in professional discussions, which has encouraged me to look at the larger picture of a pipeline that might exist between K-12 to collegiate (AIAS) to AIA.
To capitalize on the location of the Conference and increase engagement of current architecture students with AIA happenings, I worked with a small cohort of staff, students, and board members to launch a Round Table Discussion prior to Thursday’s networking reception. The vision was to bring together the generations, and provoke dialogue about the future of architecture, civic engagement, advocacy, issues in architectural education, future cities, and unification.
