iitAIAS will be taking a trip to the Milwaukee Art Museum to visit the Frank Lloyd Wright Exhibition currently on display. This is a great opportunity to visit a building in which is famously designed by Santiago Calatrava and will house the works of Wright. Dean Sennott will be in attendance with his class on Wright, offering an academic insight. This will be a lengthy day but will allow attendees to stay at the museum for as long as they wish or venture out into the surrounding grounds (exp. Eerro Saairnen’s War Memorial). Bus Departs Chicago at 9:00 am and will arrive back in Chicago no later than 8:00 pm. Tickets can be bought at the contact listed on the below poster or at said times during the week of the 21st, which will be announced at a later date.
The Beaux Arts Ball was a tradition started in Paris at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. This annual costume ball gave students a chance to celebrate the end of exams by staging outrageous all-night revels and masked balls that encouraged freedom of expression and offered social equality for the disguised. In 1931 the tradition jumped the pond and appeared in New York, however this time the attendees were architects, who famously dressed up as their buildings.
To date the tradition has taken root in American Architecture schools. This spring SAIC and IIT chapters of AIAS with be hosting their 2nd annual Chicago Beaux Arts Ball held at the historic School of The Art Institute’s Ballroom at 112 S. Michigan Ave.
This years theme is Visible Invisible, interpret as you wish (costumes must be appropriate or entrance will be denied, cocktail attire suggested)
