2nd Annual Chicago Beaux Art’s Ball March 4th

by gann05

The Beaux Arts Ball was a tradition started in Paris at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. This annual costume ball gave students a chance to celebrate the end of exams by staging outrageous all-night revels and masked balls that encouraged freedom of expression and offered social equality for the disguised. In 1931 the tradition jumped the pond and appeared in New York, however this time the attendees were architects, who famously dressed up as their buildings.

To date the tradition has taken root in American Architecture schools. This spring SAIC and IIT chapters of AIAS with be hosting their 2nd annual Chicago Beaux Arts Ball held at the historic School of The Art Institute’s Ballroom at 112 S. Michigan Ave.

This years theme is Visible Invisible, interpret as you wish (costumes must be appropriate or entrance will be denied, cocktail attire suggested)

Event will consist of two portions:

- Professional Reception 5:00-7:00pm, 21+ event, Ticket are available through RSVP to aias@iit.edu @ $20 which includes 2 drinks and hors d’oeuvres
