Mess with Mies: God is in the details
iitAIAS again presents its annual competition in partnership with the Mies Soceity.
“God is in the details,’ Mies liked to say.
In this respect the buildings reflected the man, for Mies was fussy about himself. A large, lusty man with a massive head topping a 5-foot, 10-inch frame, he dressed in exquisitely hand-stitched suits of conservative hue, dined extravagantly well on haute cuisine, sipped the correct wines from the proper goblets, and chained-smoked hand-rolled cigars”.

Bike Shelter
It’s time for the new itty bitty competitty. This time around we need designs for a bike shelter. As some of you may know, the city has some bike posts to lock up to, but they’re scarce throughout most of the city and lack the ability to protect bikes from rain. It’s up to you to design a semi-enclosed space for at least 20 bikes that can be stationed anywhere. The winner will have the opportunity to have theirs built on campus. Submissions are due on November 7th, 2011 in pdf form to aias@iit.edu.

Iitty Bitty Competitty
This weeks Iitty Bitty Competitty is our annual t-shirt design competition. The winner’s design will be used as the official iitAIAS t-shirt for the year, as well as a $20 Gift Card. Keep in mind that it is for iitaias when designing, irrelevant designs will be pulled. All submittions are due on OCTOBER 3rd via email to aias@iit.edu, and judging will be later in the week. Good luck!
Please keep the logo smaller than 8.5″ x 11″. We don’t want the entire shirt covered in graphics. See last years entry below as a starting point.

Itty Bitty Competitty
For those of you unfamiliar with our Itty Bitty Competitty’s; this is a weekly competition that is meant to take little time for the cleaver thinkers. We provide a simple theme and ask for entries, we then post all entries on this site and allow students to vote, then choose a winner. Easy as pie and you if you win you get a $20 Gift Card!! Who doesn’t like some easy money.
For our first Competitty of the school year we will be accepting submissions until Monday August 29th. To submit, send to aias@iit.edu and file must be 8.5×11 PDF format. Voting will then be open from Tuesday August 30th until midnight Thursday September 1st, with the winner announced on Friday at our Board Meeting. The same schedule will be implemented for every competitty that follows!

2011 Spring Design/Build Charrette
Its that time of the semester again and the iitAIAS Design Charrette is fast approaching. This semester we’re trying something new and exciting. This semester the charrette will be design/build!!
The project is to design a collapsible coffee booth that deploys from a Crown Hall locker. The project is of a considerably smaller scale than other projects we’ve done. We think the change in scale will be really refreshing and allow for considerations of material and connections.
Teams are still self selected and limited to 3 people. We will be having a registration booth everyday this week around noon in crown. Registration for the Charrette is $5 per team and includes a full day of fun, hectic design, lunch, and the opportunity to have your design built!!
